The Nation is Lahore-based English-language newspaper in Pakistan. It is published by Majid Nizami and edited by Saleem Bukhari. Arif Nizami who was the first editor and founder of the newspaper was fired by his uncle and the Waqt Media Group editor-in-chief and publisher Majid Nizami. Shireen Mazari has also been the editor of the daily.

The roots of The Nation trace back to 1940 when Nawa-i-Waqt was formed. However, The English paper itself was launched towards the end of 1986 by Arif Nizami. The Nation is internationally the most quoted Pakistani newspaper. The Nation rivals two Karachi based dailies, Dawn and The News International.

Nawaiwaqt (نوائے وقت) is an Urdu daily newspaper in Pakistan. Nawa e Waqt started its publishing on March 23, 1940 under the leadership of Hameed Nizami. The tradition is continued by his brother Majid Nizami. Nawa i Waqt is one of the largest circulating newspapers in the country. The newspaper frequently publishes controversial articles and has been notable in openly supporting nationalism.It had a special position in Pakistan’s media, as the most respected publication in URDU, with firm and constructive views, and excellent news coverage.

Nawa i Waqt first came out on March 29, 1940 as a fortnightly periodical. It had a pro-American and anti-communist stance. The editors were Hameed Nizami, a student of Islamia College, and Shabbar Hasan, a student of King Edward Medical University. They were influenced by a nationalist periodical Aligarh Opinion, which was started by Syed Sibt-e-Hasan, Khawaja Ahmed Abbas and Dr. Ashraf who were close friends of Dr. Shabbar Hasan. On December 15, 1942 the fortnightly was turned to a weekly and finally to a daily on July 19, 1944. Hamid Nizami was interested in literature from his student life and used to write stories.

Dawn is Pakistan’s oldest and most widely read English-language newspaper. One of the country’s two largest English-language dailies, it is the flagship of the Dawn Group of Newspapers, published by Pakistan Herald Publications, which also owns the Herald, a magazine, the evening paper The Star and Spider, an information technology magazine. It was founded in 1941 by Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah in Delhi, British India. The newspaper has offices in Karachi (Sindh), Lahore (Punjab), and the capital Islamabad, as well as representatives abroad. As of 2004, it has a weekday circulation of over 138,000.

Founded by Mohammad Ali Jinnah on 26 October 1941 as a mouthpiece for the Muslim League, Dawn was originally a weekly publication, published in New Delhi, then the capital of India. Dawn became a daily newspaper in October 1942 under the leadership of its first editor, Pothan Joseph. In 1944 Altaf Husain took over as the editor and brought nationwide awareness of its daily circulation.

After the creation of Pakistan, Hussain moved the newspaper to the capital, Karachi. Under the instruction of the owner, Mr.Jinnah, it became the official organ of the Pakistan Muslim League in Delhi, and the sole voice of the Muslims in English language, reflecting and espousing the cause of the Muslims of India. Hussain, as the journal’s editor, galvanised the Muslims of India by his editorials, which earned him wrath of the Congress Party as well as Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy and Governor General of the British Raj.

The Dawn Group of Newspapers is Pakistan’s second largest newspaper group, owned by Pakistan Herald Publications Limited (PHPL), which in turn is a subsidiary of the Dawn Media Group.

The group has an array of publications, as it tries to cater to the needs of both the financial and consumer bases. Although it has faced tough competition from the Jang Group since its creation, it has still managed to remain popular.
